Guru is not separate from disciple because guru-shishya relationship having been beyond ephemeral world ref.to well-known story of 2 birds in Upanishads---one is above the tree untouched, serene, without vikaras, and detached, established in supreme-divinity only observing the other bird who has been enjoying the sweet fruits available in/on tree but 2nd bird becomes restless when it tastes bitter fruit.Due to this bitterness 2nd bird suddenly see higher bird and jumps towards that through branches one by one.At end it reaches closeby to 1st bird and surprised to KNOW that it was itself higher bird and found all ego, misunderstanding, ignorance etc. was MAYA(ILLUSION).
As far as and as much as 2n bird(SHISHYA) goes to HIGHER BIRD(GURU),SO MUCH SO,PROPORTIONATELY,EGO AND MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS EGO LUST-LUCRE START TO DIMNISH AND GET DESTROYED FULLY AT THE END.-----------O MY BROTHER, THIS STORY OF 2 BIRDS CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD IN GENUINE SENSE----WITHOUT THE GRACE OF GURU(GOD)

The heart

I'm happy to say that the work I do with my guru is to awaken the heart, not to destroy the ego. Once the heart is awakened, the ego flourishes into what it was always meant to be used for. Love.

Peace.
