Ahmedabad, August 27 The Gujarat government has ordered an inquiry into the claims by a tantrik from Madhya Pradesh that he was asked by Asaram Bapu to kill six persons by sorcery, two of whom are senior journalists with two local dailies.

Odhad Sukharam, a tantrik of a temple dedicated to goddess Maha Kali in Madhya Pradesh, has alleged that following the controversy over the mysterious deaths of two children of the Asaram Ashram-run gurukul in July and the widespread media coverage, Asaram Bapu had asked him over phone to perform black magic to kill the six people. Sukharam has also stated that Asaram Bapu had promised him a hefty amount and his own ashram on the completion of the task.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, CID (Crime), G S Malik, who has been supervising the investigation into the mysterious deaths, said, “As we are already looking into the Asaram Ashram case and the alleged practice of the black arts therein, we will also investigate this matter.”

He added: “We are recording the statements of people associated with the latest controversy including the tantrik. If needed, we will record the statement of Asaram Bapu. Further action will be taken during the course of investigation.”
