What wondrous love is this?

Who cannot be moved by the story of Jesus’ last days?…..A strong and gentle teacher/rabbi, who brought truth into the world. Someone who so upset the local religious and state powers of his time that they they wanted to execute him for sedition. First, he was scourged, beaten, and mocked, but eventually the state decreed that he would be crucified, according to the customs of the day.

This man of Nazareth taught people about helping the poor, the widows and children. Showing unusual tolerance for his time, he was often found among people like tax collectors, women who’d committed adultery, lepers……those whom no self-righteous person would be caught dead with.

Hypocrisy was something he particularly couldn’t abide, and he called people on it time and again: the money-changers in the temples, the Pharisees, those who would rather “talk” about how much money they donated, rather than getting out there and actually using their hands to do good.

As the Son of God, he was sent here to save mankind. He healed the sick, made the blind see, and the lame walk. He even raised a close friend from the dead. He knew all the terrible pain and suffering that lay ahead for him, yet he persisted in telling the truth.

Finally, in the most astounding and profound demonstration of love and forgiveness, he forgave those who brought him to Calvary and nailed him to the cross…..and then he gave up his life………for us.

Today we celebrate his resurrection from death, by which we are promised that we, too, will join him in new life, one day in heaven.

WITH A LOVE LIKE THAT

Even
After
All this time
The sun never says to the earth,
"You owe
Me."

Look
What happens
With a love like that;
It lights the
Whole Sky.
