RELIGION IS BASED ON THE FALSE IDENTITY THAT 'I' AS SELF OR EGO. WITHOUT THE FALSE EGO RELIGION CANNOT EXIST.
RELIGION HELPS TO CREATE ITS OWN PEDIGREE AND MINDSET.RELIGION HELPS THE MASS WHO ARE UNABLE TO INQUIRE THE VALIDITY OF THEIR OWN EXISTENCE.
WHATEVER IS BASED ON MATTER IS NOT SPIRITUAL. THUS RELIGION IS BASED ON THE MATTER WHICH IS TE PHYSICAL BODY THUS IT IS NOT SPIRITUAL. THEREFORE RELIGION IS NOT THE TOOL FOR REALIZATION OF THE TRUE SELF.

why do you believe so?

RELIGION IS BASED ON THE FALSE IDENTITY THAT 'I' AS SELF OR EGO.

On what do you base this generic statement?

There are religious people that are indeed come from the ego and there are those who are not.

All our being and activities, even our meditations are based on the mind and "I" since we are not enlightened yet, so what?

Even if something is based on ego and "I", it does not mean that it is not a step towards realizations, after all, all realized people once before were based on the "I"

Agree to disagree

I understand where you are coming from, but I believe your statements to be overly general and broad. While there might be truth to it in certain cases, such as some of the larger, "organized" religions, it is certainly not true in all religions. My tradition, traditional Advaita Vedanta, declares exactly what you claim religions cannot and do not declare.
