Contraction opening to remembering

I was doing some guided self-inquiry with a teacher who had me investigating an tight area in my body. As I went deeply into it things really started to unfold - and I had what seemed to be a memory from a past life. It was very vivid, I was an older man, native american, and it seemed long ago. The memory was that of dying, and I can't explain it too much but it was very comforting. I had a sense that something I was holding onto in that life was holding me back a little, I'm unsure of what but feel like I came to terms with something.

Any similar experiences?

Be aware

It sounds profound (I heard very similar accounts in the past).

Sometimes when I do Vipassana, I get glimpses of memories that are maybe from past lives, some are involved with my then death.

I use in the previous sentence the word "maybe" not out of doubt but in order to remind ourselves that these past life memories can very easily become yet another exotic entertainment for the mind.

I mean: it is important to make use of these past lives memories in order to understand and let go mental and spiritual patterns we have carried with us from previous lives BUT it is not less important to be constantly aware that we are not making use of these memories for other, contra-productive, purposes.

Who is having this memory?

Look for the one who is having this memory.

The memory can have many explanations and sources: previous life, this life, imagination - the only common and certain factor is the one who is experiencing it, whatever the experience is, whatever the source of the experience is. Therefore, look for this experiencer within you.

Sounds truely fantastic!

Sounds truely fantastic!

I get such vivid yet unfamiliar memories just before falling asleep with a deep conviction that it occurred to me, you feel it in your bones and flesh.

Your memory sounds very profound and authentic. Many times our past life memories are concerned with our death in past life as it was the last and most traumatic event in that life which is blocking previous memories to come up.

Based on my experience as a therapist, this memory you processed will enable you now to open to events from that life and thus to release complex conditionings you have brought from that past life, conditionings you may have been frustrated not understanding what their source is.

But don't push it, continue with this guided self-inquiry without expectations and things will happen when they need to happen in the right way.

The vivid feeling

Follow the feeling you had in the memory, this is your link to that experience. Try to revive and experience again what you felt there, without effort or pressure, softly.

As you now know after having this wonderful experience: what you felt there is more vital, strong and important than the chronicles themselves, isn't it?

Finally, as stated in previous comments, be aware not to get too attached to the experience, make proper and thorough use of it but do not distract yourself from now on to just expecting more of the same kind to come. This kind of experience, though extremely beneficial, is also very addictive :-)

SELF INQUIRY IS NOTHING TO DO WITH PAST LIFE.

Santthosh
HI SENTIENT
IT IS MERE HALLUCINATION. THE PRESENT BIRTH AND LIFE ITSELF IS PART OF MERE MIRAGE, HOW CAN THE PAST LIFE CAN BE TRUE WHICH YOU EXPERIENCED IT ON THE FALSE SELF. THE INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE ARE NOTHING TO WITH SELF INQUIRY. SELF INQUIRY IS TO FIND THE TRUE SELF IS NOT 'I' BUT THE SUBSTANCE AND WITNESS OF THE 'I'.
WITH RESPECT AND REGARDS

Mirage

A mirage is something the physical being experiences usually through one physical sense but are never able to reach. An example is the appearance of water in desert sand or on a highway, as one attempt to approach it continues to maintain the same distance form the observer. In that light, what Sentient experienced he was able to use other senses to determine its existence. That, Santthosh, proves your concept to be in error.

We manifest in the physical form to learn to integrate the "life-force mind combination" with the flesh to provide flesh ability to act as if it were mine, life-force or the flesh it is at will. In the discarnated state the life-force mind combination has no means to interact with anything else requiring it to seek a physical manifestation for that purpose. Sentient's experience is another of the many means the life-force mind combination uses to reveal to itself while in dis-integrated flesh that it needs a physical manifestation to be complete, a "soul".

Past Lives

Very interesting story and it certainly is exciting when we learn about past lives and all that kind of mystery. Everyone knows who they were before if they are able to see who they are now. Your likes, character traits, things that you have fear of, or places of preference etc etc. The thing is through the study of the aura which holds your past lives within it. These past lives draw to you what you have done in those lives which is karma and usually not good karma. Until we come to the True God and work to change the aura colors to light and repentance is the key, we do not advance much in this lifetime. Knowing who I am is not as important as knowing what I am now and how I can change and eliminate karmic debts at least start anyhow.
I love to study about past live stuff, but in my heart I know that all I was was a sinner and a nobody and its time to clean all that out of me.
Anyway don't know what you think of all that, but feel free to chat ok.
Peace to you.
