We can't handle the Truth

How can you be interested in this? Now that you've had your swim in the river of bliss and climbed the mountain in search of ultimate Truth and now you round the corner and stop dead in your tracks as you spot the gallows off in the distance; now that you know where the journey leads and how it must end, how can you go on? The price of liberation is the existence of the one who would be liberated? How absurd is that?

Truth is, hardly anyone does go on. The steps of the gallows are littered with flyers offering the latest alternative, folks milling in the crowd selling enlightenment buttons, the gallows surrounded by booths manned by gurus of every flavor who have found a comfy place to hide and offer their wares to a willing clientele.

And yet some will walk the steps, contrary to all sense and thumbing their noses at every teacher who will stare you blankly in the face and insist you will not go, you cannot go. Surrender is antievolutionary, and existential death our greatest fear, and so why do we go on? It occurs to me that we go on precisely for the same reason that we must die; because we never existed to begin with.

It's a fine game we play, and it gets terribly dramatic, but is it so that you don't already know the Truth? Look deeply and you'll notice the smirk on the face of the little inner bastard..... He knows. Cease your thoughts entirely and stay absolutely present and still with no purpose at all, and watch attentively as your mind frantically searches for the start button and your whole body grows in discomfort and aches to move. How long can the scenery props be held in place against a silent mind before they fall?..... Mind already knows it's nature and can't even believe in itself. This is why you always doubt; you know you're making it all up.

You already know the Truth. You're already Awake, you're just playing opossum, fluttering one eyelash just to check and see if everybody is buying the act. When your head rolls, you'll wake up laughing at the absurdity, knowing that you were never even asleep, and a bit mystified at how you pulled it off.

Why does ego walk the steps to it's own demise? Because ego isn't running the show. That's the whole point now, isn't it?

I find the wording of the above question interesting. Who or what is holding the scenery props in place "against" a silent mind?
