Mind is like food when you are on a diet.

Minimize consumption but do not condemn it.

Do not condemn it as you are living on it.

Just make sure you consume moderate quantities. Only the essential and for the proper reasons.

Constantly verify that the reason you eat is pure nutrition and not out of other needs such as gratification of some mental desires, boredom, anxiety, depression and addiction.

Make it a habit to fast from time to time. Such fasting is called meditation. When you fast, observe your compulsive desire to think.

Use mind, don't let mind use you

As Eckhart Tolle, who appears to be one of the wisest people on earth right now once said: Currently mind uses you. Reverse it: Use mind, don't let mind use you.

Use it only when you truly need mind, the same rule as with your cell phone, computer, etc.

use mind -- let mind does not use you

Good thought.
Look our mind is always projected outwards.
The rule should be
the body is absorbed in prana
prana in mind
mind in intellect
intellect in anand or bliss
and finally bliss in atman or the soul.
We are just reversing this. Hence we are becoming a slave of our mind.
let us understand who this I or the soul is.
Others will become crystal clear.

Mental bulimia

One of the most severe neurosis of mankind. A car engine in neutral that refuses to stop. Also among spiritual people. They will analyze analyze analyze but will not dare to sit silently even for 5 minutes a day, still, without a move, with no mind.

Thinking is an addiction

This perfect allegory proves that all addictions are the same and thinking is one kind of addiction. The mental process that is involved with addiction is more or less the the same regardless of the addictive external object: Thinking, eating, alcohol, drugs.

Eating With The Mind!

Eating is consuming, mental consuming is receiving information.

One reason many people physically over eat is they are not eating nursing foods, their foods are liked foods instead. The body has cravings but if we don't recognize what the craving is for so we will just eat anything, thus we over eat and need to diet. Food then becomes an enemy because we are getting unneeded nutrients which the body will store creating fat.

All to often what our minds consumes is for entertainment rather than enlightenment, it fulfills the need of consuming but not the need of the I which require digesting. When we consume for entertainment we don't attempt to digest it, we only eat and eat more.

It's true, we don't need to mentally consume constantly but consume then analyze so as to eliminate anything not conducive to the growth of the I. The whole purpose for being a living entity is for the purpose of the I's learning, therefore we should listen to our I and feed our minds accordingly.

The only meditation I use is never to quieten my mind but to digest what it has consumed. Our name, man, means mind able to understand all things and quietening the mind and not analyzing leaves us with much knowledge but without how to understand it.

I don't see much connection

I don't see much connection between what you wrote and the post.

And learning is just an overrated mind activity. It has nothing to do with the spiritual quest. Actually ,it is a big hindrance in the spiritual path, a musterbation of dead past events.

The Connection & Spiritual Quest!

The OP is suggesting meditation is the way to stop eating with the mind but spirituality require comprehending life, shutting down the mind, as in meditation, does nothing for our spiritual awakening.

If our bodies didn't digest the food we eat we would not obtain its benefit, if we don't analyze the knowledge we ingest we don't benefit from it. So the connection is pointing out that consuming knowledge without analysis makes us fat and not the analysis of it. It takes longer to analyze what we ingest than it does to consume it, as with the body, we should eat sparingly compared to how long it takes to digest our physical foods.

For all practical purposes, being spiritual is merely having understanding of the purpose for existence, with that understanding one is able to live at peace with everything on earth and, I believe, beyond. We can't enter the place we seek without understanding That makes our spiritual quest be seeking the union of opposite which can only be done by analyzing or digesting the knowledge we ingest.

If you have proof of how learning is the hindrance of spirituality please present it. Our name, man, means mind able to comprehend all things and if we fail to comprehend we are a failure as man, is how I see it.
