It's all about presence.

Most of the time you are not present
You act automatically based on your conditioning
You are lost in your thoughts, feelings, imaginations, memories
You are there and not here
Then and not now
and above all you are not even conscious of that
There is no point in going on reading
until you fully realize this.

There is some confusion about presence
Presence is being present with your mind
Not just with your body
It's being aware of yourself
and also of being aware
It's rediscovering that you are in the movie theater and not in the movie
projected as your stream of consciousness
It's not just a matter of being here and now
But also and mainly of being aware of being here and now
It may sound confusing
but it's terribly simple and natural
once you get a glimpse of it for the first time.

The main problem with presence is that very quickly you lose it.
Don't be critical of yourself
It's only natural
You are faced with mighty powers of habit
Just regain presence when you realize that you lost it.

You follow the very same mental mini steps
You followed to become consciously present
But this time it's automatic
a playback of a recording
You are already somewhere else
and you are not aware of it
Presence that becomes automatic ceases to be presence
Don't be critical of yourself

Just regain concious presence when you realize that it became automatic.

You can meditate
You can fast
You can pray with a lot of intention
You can do moral deeds
and even be mindful
but if it's automatic
If you are absent
It has little value
You understand this
At the end of the road
It's all about you being present.
