Or like a river flowing. Can we pretend to possess the water at any given time, freeze its flow and say 'this is me, this is mine'? To what can we attach?
We need only see through the mind's tendency to "take snapshots" of a 'live' situation, and then take possession of that snapshot, as though it were something real.
Much of what the mind comes up with is *entirely* imaginary, created by combining these mental snapshots in various ways. Then of course we feel insecure, doubtful and lacking, because what we've attached to isn't really there. So we seek security in more mental images, and the game continues...
The best way to do that is to establish a self image and continually reinforce it, all the while pretending it's the basic core of 'me' and can't change. When we have to play too many different roles, we feel like we don't know who we are anymore, which of course we never did.
Sometimes it's not a wind, it's a hurricane and then you try to helplessly stop it instead of bending down, forgetting that it is only temporal. This is when it turns very serious...
being blown about by a hurricane is indeed temporary, but remembering it is temporary while being banged into trees and houses and what not- doesn't change things. however, it may keep us in the present moment- if shock hasn't reached us first!
if my house is flying off to Oz- seriousness becomes a moot point. beyond serious. perhaps the hurricane (or tornado) that you speak of isn't all that strong. just scary.
"spirituality, truth" is not that serious. having bricks thrown at you by a strong wind- for the body- that is.
blowing in the wind
What is wind & what is blowing ?
