Today is 2nd October of 2009. On 2nd October 2 national leaders were born ------(1) Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation and (2) Lal Bahadur Shastri, second Prime Minister of India.
Both have struggled up-to the best capacities of their-own for the achievement of Indian freedom in order to account of which our nation got freedom on dated 15th August 1947.
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi was born on March 21st at noon in the year of 1923 in Chhindawara, in Central India AND SHE BELONGED TO THE BOTH LEADERS. In her childhood She could be found alone in a remote corner of the house, with Her face beaming with inward joy, lost in meditation. Most of the time She was bursting with energy. At an early age She exhibited an exquisite taste for music and arts. She loved everything that was genuine and natural.
Her father went jail for many times and remained in jails for years during the national movement of freedom struggle. Her mother also went to jail for 5 times and family was also forced to shift from huge big houses to huts for living but the whole of family was happy with their freedom struggle and enjoy everything which might have happened to them on account of freedom struggle. From 1928, her parents regularly went to jail in view of their connection to Indian freedom struggle.
Nirmala Devi spent some part of her childhood in Gandhiji's Ashram and he was extremely fond of her and called her Nepali because of her Nepali features. Even at that age her great soul was evident to Gandhiji and he frequently sought her advice on spiritual matters. That the message of all the great saints of India is not religion or philosophy but of self-realization.
Her heart was in the country's freedom struggle and she would wrench with pains. She would helplessly watch the atrocities of the British tyranny. Young Nirmala bore the full brunt of freedom struggle when she was studying at Medical college at Lahore in 1942; so she was sent to jail in view of her sharing to freedom struggle and on account of which she was also rusticated from Medical College.
She was married to Mr. Chandika prasad Srivastava, a prominent member of Indian Administrative Services who became the Secretary to the 2nd Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. The Shastri family immediately took her warmth and the Prime Minister would seek her counsel and comfort. Mr. Srivastava rendered a great service to the country through assisting Shastriji in many crises. Mr C.P. Srivastava wrote also a biography on Lal Bahadur Shasstri in which the love between the both(Prime Minister and his Secretary) was found expressed and also both--- Prime Minister and his Secretary---were extremely honest. Sir C.P.Srivastava wrote also a book on corruption. In the United States he was appointed Secretary General of the Maritime Corporation wherein he rendered his services for 17 years and U.N.has been indebted to him for his unique services rendered to. Though the Mother a very modest person; however, She was perfectly at ease with the London high society. Subsequently, he was, from time to time, awarded by 17 nations and he was also Knighted by the Queen of England. In those years Sir C.P. was so very busy that She was often lonely but She never complained. She manifested Her great concern for upholding the ideal family relationship; so the importance of the family indeed a paramount aspect of Her spiritual teachings and Her own life exemplifies this. Her in-laws and relatives adore Her. When Sir C.P. Srivastava was the Chairman of the Shipping Corporation of India, the employees would say, "She is precious like a Mother to us because we always felt we are all family members". In the words of Sir C.P., "Ever since we have lived together, constantly Nirmala has been a dedicated wife standing like a rock in periods of difficulties and crisis which always occur in everyone's life. First and foremost, in-spite of Her numerous attributes, but I would mention only one of them that is Her straight-forwardness and Her innocence. She cannot sometimes understand the tortuous ways of others. Her heart is full of genuine compassion for the poor, the needy, the afflicted". She loves the company of children the most.
When the time of higher education came to Her; there was freedom movement in India on account of which She entered in this movement and Her soul would go out to the martyrs and Her torn heart would express its anguish in tender songs as one of these being composed by Her as Below:

"GLORY TO MOTHER INDIA,
VICTORY TO THEE
THE WHOLE UNIVERSE RESOUNDS WITH THY NAME
EVEN THE GREEN PASTURES OF YOUR VILLAGES SING THY PRAISE WHEN MY EYES ARE FILLED WITH TEARS
AND MY THROAT IS CHOKED WITH GRIEF,
MY HEART IS CRYING OUT FOR THY VICTORY.
THE SMOKE FROM THE MARTYR'S PYRE RISES TO MEET THE SKY
EVEN THERE HIS SPIRIT HAILS THY GLORY.
VICTORY TO THEE
VICTORY TO THEE.
