Attachment to the true self, and detachment from experince of diversity is the key to freedom and salvation.
Everyone of us attached to the 'I', which holds the whole experince of diversity. and diversity makes us the prisoner of duality. The 'I' which appears and disappears as mind is impermanent.

Why the 'I', does not disappear even after inquiry, even if one knows intellectually 'I' am not the body?

If 'I', is not the body, what is 'I', without the body?

How can 'I', remain as 'I', without the body?

Where 'I', disappeared in deep sleep?

What is it that knows, the appearance and disappearance of the 'I'?

When the 'I' is impermanent, what is it that permanent Which knows the appearance and disappearance of the 'I'?

How can one remain as 'I', when it is impermanent and the judge the eternal truth, which is not the 'I'?

Seeker of the truth has to find what is eternal and what is impermanent to decide whether the 'I' or duality is permanent or the knower[witness of the 'I', is permanent?, to overcome the illusion and establish in the non dual.
truth.

Attachment to duality or 'I' leads to remain in the hallucination of cycle of birth, life and death. And detachment from 'I' or duality, is key to freedom and salvation.

"How can 'I', remain as 'I',

"How can 'I', remain as 'I', without the body?"

There's no reason to believe it does.

"Where 'I', disappeared in deep sleep?"

Again, there's no reason to believe it does. If you close your eyes, did you go blind? If you are knocked unconscious, did you die?

"What is it that knows, the appearance and disappearance of the 'I'?"

It's not known, as far as 'I' can tell.

"If 'I', is not the body, what is 'I', without the body?"

Nisargadatta: "I really do not see myself related to anybody and anything. Not even to a self, whatever that self may be. I remain forever -- undefined. I am -- within and beyond -- intimate and unapproachable." (from "I Am That")

"Where 'I', disappeared in deep sleep?"

Temporarily submerged in the deep-sleep state.

"What is it that knows, the appearance and disappearance of the 'I'?"

One could say 'awareness', but really there's no word for it. Unidentified, undefined and unattached It is. Yet, it IS, while the "I" is not.
