Death in Bangalore

Tags:
My old friend from Canada, Mel, died last Saturday while participating in an intensive retreat with Paramahansa Nithyananda in Bangalore. He fell off a balcony and was killed instantly. No cause has been established so far, as far as I know.... heart-attack? he was still relatively young and very fit... suicide? he had a young family??....drugs? not allowed in the retreat...we might never know. Just wanted to post this and bring it to the attention of all of you fellow seekers. Fare well, brother. Thank you.

so sad...
Dear mayasurfer - let me express my condolences. It is touching that you have decided to share this with us in this virtual community. I hope that being in such a retreat, he left his body in good peace and harmony.
hug
with all the sorrow - if to die then to die in the meditative state of mind of a retreat...
And I heard good things about Paramahansa Nithyananda so I assume it is not any harmful forces or malpractice etc.
condolences
condolences, I'm also feeling touched that you chose to share this with us. who knows what really happened there (and I'm not speaking about the supernatural...)
wow
Can you tell more about Mel? What was his spiritual background? How did you get to know him?
I feel your sadness.
Was he a long-time devotee
Was he a long-time devotee of Nityananda?
Mel
Mel and me were friends from the seventies when we taught skiing in Quebec. I ended up in New Zealand, Mel stayed on in Canada, started a family and had two sons, 7 and 9 now. He "found" Paramahansa Nithyananda" about 3 years ago and has been a devotee since then. We might never know what caused him to suddenly get up from bed during the night and fall over the railing of the balcony. Very strange indeed. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and condolences.
Condolences

Pit your friend who has chosen this wrong guru
The theme of this guru is that life is not worth living, your life is a waste, after listening to his speech, there is no listeners who will not feel depressed and helpless.
I don't agree
I am not sure I can agree with you. I have once seen a few taped satsangs with him and his messages seemed very optimistic to me.
BTW, it is strange to hear this from you - I remember reading some time ago pro opinions of you about him before you decided to embark on a vendetta against him and among other things maliciously sabotage his guru profile. What happened that made you so resentful about him?
From a bystander
I was in the Bengaluru ashram when the incident happened. Mel was staying in the guest accommodation outside the ashram premises. He was seen sitting on the balcony railing multiple times outside the unit he was staying in on the 3rd floor of the building. Even though Mel had been cautioned that it’s dangerous to be sitting on the railing, on the morning of the fatal accident, there are people who saw him sitting on the railing and falling. Mel was immediately rushed to one of the best super specialty hospitals where in spite of gamut of medical facilities available, they were unable to revive him. The ashram administration conducted all the legal proceedings necessary keeping Mel’s family fully informed all along the way.
Mel was in a very peaceful and happy frame of mind as was evident from the program session interactions etc. that have been shared by the ashram with Mel’s family.
Thank you
very much. Really appreciate your account of Mel's death. Good to read that he was in a peaceful frame of mind. Thank you.
Small world
I find it outstanding again and again that through the internet, people manage to connect regarding such moving circumstances and context.
Without this communication means and this website, what were the chances of mayasurfer to hear the account of Mel's death from bystander, a complete stranger.
After the holocaust, Jewish people from all around the world and especially in Israel were desperate to find out whether their dear relatives and friends survived and if not how exactly they perished but then the means were of course very limited: certain type of newspaper ads and special radio broadcasts that used to say the names and contact info.
