But Guru Purnima this year is on the 7/7, isn't it?

I see about it at http://www.gurusfeet.com/blog/what-guru-purnima, can you tell how it is celebrated in India? is it attractive like Divali etc. with celebrations in the streets?

7/7

Yes it is on 7/7/2009 this year.
This is the highest day for a seeker to go and take the blessing of his GURU and also to pay Homage to all the Param Gurus of the Lineage.
The disciple goes to Guru and ask for blessings and the Guru and other disciple carries the satsang in praise of GURU.

physical encounter is necessary for blessing?

According to tradition, if the seeker cannot meet his guru face to face (due to distance etc.) can he have the blessing of the guru in his heart or a physical encounter is necessary in this case?

What is "param gurus"?

Physical ecnounters

It is desired so but if not possible then no need to worry, one can remember them from there.
It is little bit strange as once you are attached to your GURU the you always remember HIM.
It is special day.
Second Param Gurus are the senior GURUS like GURUs GURU and so on.

guru leads

guru is in us as our spiritual guide(either as awakened or unawakened) and the same spirituality according to our liking is also available out of us as person which attracts us for spiritual uplift.outer guru is needed until our inner guru awakened within us.after awakening guru in us,outer guru remains our the most revered/respected/ honorable human figure.if guru is already awakened in us then also outer guru is the most revered for us and there are some disciples who count their gurus greater than GOD.in SIKHISM,GURU has been treated not less than god but tenth guru sri govind singh made principle than after his death ,next GURU must be CONSIDERED GRANTH SAHIB.GURU leads the disciples through different spiritual stages till he leaves them with the LORD.actual our inner guru is our mind.
HELLO, DEAR BROTHER AATHREYA,in view of above I now quote to you revered swami Brahmananda, first prssident of Ramakrishna Math and Mission as below:---
" NO GURU IS GREATER THAN YOUR OWN MIND.YOU WILL SEE WHEN YOUR MIND IS MADE STEADY THROUGH MEDITATION, IT WILL DICTATE FROM WITHIN WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO AND WHICH WAY TO FOLLOW."
