IMO a true guru won't object to his/her words being spread widely, but a false one will. Still, copyright laws of the land remain intact, which means not a psychological binding to get permission but the possibility of being successfully sued if one doesn't. I guess it's up to the individual in question.
If your Guru is alive (in His physical body), yes, you need permission from Him. And if He is no longer in His physical body, you should still pray to His soul and get His permission before proceeding. In the Guru-Sishya parampara, the sishya cannot start anything without the express permission of the Guru. This rule has been put with a lot of wisdom so that the ego of the sishya is progressively refined and dissolved.
I do agree with you Swami ji & with Comments of Omkaradatta also.
In this world of copyright some problems do come later on if the Guru is not in His physical body and disputes can arise between disciples.
It is very personal thing and the consent of all Gurubhai,s must be taken to avoid any complications.

Even as the fingers of the two hands are equal, so are human beings equal to one another. No one has any right, nor any preference to claim over another.
It's an interesting question...
