Direct, unpretentious, unassuming and awakened.

I have heard Adyashanti speak on tape and CD since about 2003. His unpretentious manner and clarity have been very important for me. His work assisted me in a clearer understanding of much of the unnecessary and manneristic obscurity of Zen as non-duality in an more accessible Western context. This is a rare thing and something that would otherwise have taken many years to approach through the culture and the religion of Zen. He also gave the respect due to Jesus' words but which I had discarded because of the many distortions of mainstream fundamentalist Christianity. A couple of Adya's CDs are favorites - a first one: TRUE MEDITATION, has a number of guided meditations that illuminate the practice of allowing things to be as they are. A new one: THE END OF YOUR WORLD is a broad in-depth study, spoken meditation (not a guided one) and sometimes personal history of awakening. It wonderfully outlines the beauty, pitfalls, experiences and knowings of awakening over time. I sense that Adyashanti has done Westerners an inestimable favor for having awakened to unity and for bringing all consciousness along with it in language and culture that is neither exotic or romantic.
