Biography
Aum Amma is originally from Kerala. No much information is known about Amma's childhood and the occurrences that brought her to her current state.
She is called Aum Amma after the sacred Aum symbol (ও) since at some point the symbol appeared on her forehead (see the video in the "View Video" tab).
Before 2001, she lived in Tirupathi and traveled at least once to Varanasi.
During 2001-2003, Amma lived in a cave on the sacred Arunachala Hill in Tiruvannamalai (this is the reason for one of her names "Cave Amma"). People used to visit her for darshans in that cave (called "Cave Amma").
In 2003, she left the cave and traveled to Rishikesh and then returned to Tiruvannamalai. Since then, she has lived in Tiruvannamalai in several houses and has been attended by her devotees.
She gives darshans at her house every Sunday (see the location tab).

The darshan includes ecstatic bhajans (devotional music) played live by a band. The playing starts about half an hour before Amma is brought in for the darshan.
Then Amma is brought in by her devotees. She is in a complete disconnected ecstatic state with her eyes rolled and her body trembling in an uncontrolled manner. When the darshan starts, numerous flowers are placed on Amma's hands by her devotees and she is throwing them to the air.
Each participant in the darshan, on his/her turn, approaches Amma and places his hands on Amma's feet. She may put her hands (sometimes her feet) on the participant's head and this way transmit her blessing.
The energy in the room is electrifying and there is a lot of love and heart chakra activity felt.
At the end, before leaving, a prasad is given.
