It should have been all the way around... It is a pathetic aspect of human kind...

Organized religions have nothing to do with spirituality

it is because organized religions, especially the western, have abandoned all seeds of spirituality and simply became political organizations.

And as all political organizations they are based on conflicts and hatred, in other words, war.

Quite true

Men know what is good, but they do what is bad- Socrates

This is why it happens.

ego-based religions

Again the same old story: you can be very religious, very spiritual but if down there the foundation is still the ego then there will be conflicts and wars.

That's, I think, the case with the organized religions, the sum of individual egos of the religious leaders at each religion formulates the collective religious ego of this religion and then searches for enemy religious egos to fight with in order to sustain its existence.

TRUTH IS THE ONLY WEPON

Santthosh
HI HUGO,
RELIGIOUS TRUTH IS NOT UNIVERSAL. THUS EVERY RELIGIONISTS CLAIMS WHATEVER THEIR RELIGION SAYS IS ULTIMATE TRUTH AND WHAT OTHER RELIGION SAYS IS UNTRUTH. THIS RELIGION CONFLICT IS NEVER ENDING. TRUTH OF ONE'S OWN EXISTENCE IS THE ONLY WEAPON END THIS UNREST OF THE WORLD IN THE NAME OF GOD AND RELIGION. ON THE BASE OF TRUTH THE GOD ,MAN AND HIS EXPERIENCE OF THE WORLD AND BELIEF OF GOD IS MERE MIRAGE. THE TRUTH IS THE NON-DUAL SPIRIT. REALIZING THE SPIRIT AS SELF AND ULTIMATE REALITY AND THE SPIRIT AS GOD WILL END ALL THE VIOLENCE AND WARS IN THE NAME OF GOD AND RELIGION. THUS IT IS NECESSARY TO PLANT A SEED OF TRUTH NOW WHICH WILL YIELD FRUITS IN THE FUTURE AND END THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ORGANIZED RELIGION.
WITH RESPECT AND REGARDS
SANTTHOSH.

Separateness

War is caused by intense feelings of separation that have led to fear and hatred. Organized religion, in many cases, is one of the institutions that helps create the strongest sense of separateness from others, running a close second only to political organizations such as governments. Religions that teach Unity amongst all beliefs have not been found to promulgate wars, only those that teach a "we are right, you are wrong" theology, which is what fuels the "we are separate" emotions that create the fear and hatred that spark the wars.

Religion, "a belief in god"

Religion is "a belief in god" according to modern definitions, and it is that definition which is the primary cause.

The belief in god incorporates with it the belief in a devil, therefore, everything not godly has to be destroyed is the concept of modernly defined religion. Should man ever get out of the half reality they attempt to live they would see that everything has a purpose, even all of the things called evil. Once that is recognized we no longer fight against the actions but search for the purpose for them.

Should religion ever revert to its original definition, "a way of life which teaches man the purpose for existence and the comprehension of all things" wars will cease. However, for man in mass, that will never happen, therefore, it behooves you to incorporate that definition into religion and live it. To do that you will have to give up all abstract concepts like god and devil, good and evil, pretty and ugly, and any other duel concepts without a concrete base to recognize them by. Things like hot and cold, dark and light and in and out will continue to have their places because without the opposites we have no cause for reasoning as the mechanism for learning.

If I have caused you to question your beliefs I have accomplished my mission. Now, reason the differences in our concepts and reason that until you have reasoned all pros and cons concerning your new revelation.

understanding what is...

Elijah_NatureBoy's reply says it all in my opinion (sorry, I'm breaking my promises here already).

To call anything evil, which is permitted by God, seems to me a dangerous path. Is that acceptance and surrender?

Religions

The crusades? The Inquisition? The Jihad? The clashes in Kashmir? India-Pakistan-Bangladesh wars? The Israeli-Arab conflict?

Religions and all the other types of ideologies.

Religions are people. No people, no religions.

Devine help

We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking
only to learn that is God who is shaking them.

Divine "help"

"We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking
only to learn that is God who is shaking them."

True words.
Clearly, we come from the standpoint that spiritual imperialism is bad; within that judgement are the corners which frame our own subjective view. We may want to turn the conversation to why spiritual imperialism is allowed to persist in the first place, if the schemes of man are interior to those of the heavens.

In other words, always seek to transcend your own perspective.

How funny, really. The Earth allows suppressive evil to gather force for a millenium, and then knocks it all down with a feather.

Not religion...

I believe that no war was truly started because of religion. The way I see it is that religion was used as an excuse to cover economical/resource based motives as a way to convince the masses that the war was/is righteous and sanctioned by "God".

Behind God there is a shadow because he stands between the light and us.
