what is it that knows, wheter the mind is dead or alive.

It is better to know the knower of the mind. With what one has to know whether the mind is dead or alive . Something has to know, whether the mind is dead or alive other than the mind. what is it?
If mind is dead, then the whole experince, which includes the person and his experince of the world is non-existent.How can one say the mind is dead. Therefore it is better to know what is mind ?and what is the substance of the mind?, instead of imagining the mind is dead or alive to unfold the mystery of the mind.
