Seeker has to distinguish between the true self, which is spirit and the mind, which is 'I'. The latter, is being mere mirage, appears,disappears and reappears. But the true self which is spirit,is eternal existence,free from ignorance and mirage. If mind remains in its formless non dual natural state, the mirage disappears the delusion, which creates sense of reality will vanish. Same way as dream, becomes unreal when waking takes place, the waking becomes unreal when wisdom dawns.

The nature of the self, is like a ocean, and the mind is like wave.If one views on the standpoint of ocean everything is water. If one views it on the standpoint of wave one finds only waves. Similarly if one views and judges on the standpoint of spirit as self everything is spirit. If one views and judges on the standpoint of 'I' it is full of diversity.
