The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was.

Lovers don't finally meet somewhere,
they're in each other all along.

Thanks

Thanks for summiting yourself to such a noble purpose.

" There is only one way to save the world and that is through 'dharma" (religious
practice.) When one doesn't walk the righteous path of religious practice, this desperate world will surely be destroyed."

It was very refreshing to me to find on the net someone who sees the usefulness of religions. Many all over blame religions for all the murder, violence, greed, anger that is committed in the world instead of placing the blame upon themselves. It is not the religions, but what comes out of the hearts of mankind that causes these terible distructive storms.

I don't blame religions, I 'blame' the ignorance of those who follow them without questioning. As the bumper sticker says "Lord, please save me from your followers."

Some guru said (don't remember who cause I'm not a follower) "Remove yourself from the world, and then see if there is still a problem."

"The world needs to be saved". "You must walk the path of the righteous." "We know the Truth and we will save you." This is the human ignorance, embraced by most religions, that has given rise to untold suffering, cruelty and murder for millenia. It's time for us to grow up and stop acting like spoiled children.

That was Niz, and I'm not a follower either... just have a good memory (grin). And of course, have read "I Am That" many times. Fwiw, the exact quote goes...

"What business have you with saving the world, when all the world needs is to be saved from you? Get out of the picture and see whether there is anything left to save." -- Nisargadatta

The Usefulness of Religion

danceswithcats,

Religion, secular schooling and all other forms of external instructions are requirements of civilization. Civilization is the interdependence of man on other man seeking to live without the self-reproducing environment. All external instructing is the process of cultivating minds into the desire of belonging to man's interdependence on one another.

The word cultivate is the process of "denying certain natural attributes the opportunity to be developed with in a person" which means civilization is a cult. "Cult" is the base word of cultivate which is "prohibiting certain attribute from being developed in while allowing other to grow uninhibited." That is what all all external teachings do.

On the other hand, "education" is "bringing forth from within one's self" which is done by being an objective observer who participates as needed to discover the different aspects of and will reason objectively with the outcomes of their actions. Educating is what children do when they engage themselves with things, tasting, feeling, looking at, smelling and listening to them. Parents want to protect the children and/or the object so they prohibit the child from handling them which is the foundation of man's cultivating others which led to religious and secular schoolings.

Thus, there would not be civilization had man never come into the belief, as there is no proof or them, in good and evil and the other judgmental adjectives. Therefore, all social practices of man, religious or secular, is the foundation of the world and without it it would be destroyed. But, we must realize the earth and the world are two different things, the world is "the system man has produced upon the earth" while the earth is "a conglomeration of living entities consuming each other to maintain themselves and their specie" and man can not destroy it in the short period civilizations remain upon it.
